What is the 21 Day Fix? It is a nutrition and fitness program designed to make nutrition simple and fitness easy to fit in your daily routine.
How does it work? The key to your success with the 21 Day Fix is to think inside the box (pun intended). The 21 Day fix comes with 7 color coded containers and a Shakeology Shaker cup which you will use daily to help portion and transport your meals. There is no need to count calories or futz with kitchen scales. With these containers figuring out what healthy foods to eat and how much of each is a breeze, just follow along with your healthy eating guide to determine what healthy foods belong in which containers.
Will I like the meal plan? Never fear picky eaters, there are plenty of options and YOU choose what goes into your containers for each meal. And for those of you who have a sweet tooth like me, there are also treats allowed as well. Within the manual is a list of treat recipes that replace a yellow container.
For those of you who like to drink something other than water, you do have the option to drink milk, soy milk, almond milk, coconut water, coconut milk and fruit juices. Simply sub out a yellow container for these items up to 3 times per week. You are also enjoy a glass of wine but you'll need to swap out a yellow container for the day!
Now I am totally a planner and plan my meals out a week in advance. Here is a sample meal plan I would use in a typical week with my correct portion amounts:
For me, I am in the 1,200 to 1,499 calorie range! That allows me 3 green (vegetables) 2 purple (fruits), 4 Red (protein) 2 Yellow (starchy carbs) 1 Blue (nuts, cheese) 1 Orange (seeds and dressings) and 2 teaspoons (nut butters, olive oil).
Then, the food that belongs in each container is written out in list form in the manual. It's so simple! I can easily pick from each list and create a meal plan for the week. Foods are also listed in the order of importance. In essence, the higher on the list the more nutritionally sound they are!
At first glance the containers seemed small to me, but I have to admit, once I measure and pour my food onto my plate I'm amazed at how much food fits into the containers.
How does Shakeology fit into the 21 Day Fix? Because it is high in protein it is considered a red container. I love it because it offers a quick, healthy meal that is easy to make and tastes like a treat :) See, I told you I had a sweet tooth.
I'm not a great cook, are there Recipes? There are a list of seasoning mixes, treat recipes, and meal recipes that help you plan out what you will be eating for the next 21 days. My favorite re the recipes for your shakeology and the home made dressing recipes!!! And don't worry, everything in this program is designed to be user friendly, easy and less time consuming.
What if I want to eat out? At the back if the manual, there is an awesome restaurant guide. It give you a list and shows you what containers would be used for certain restaurant foods like cheese and veggie pizza (1/4 of 12inch pizza) 2 yellow, 1 orange and 1 green! There are lots of choices that are bound to be at almost any restaurant you choose.
I love how simple the nutrition is and how well the short 1/2 workouts fit in my schedule as a busy working mom.
