1. It’s natural, therefore it is healthy…FALSE
Marketing can be so deceptive. It’s almost like you have to decode everything you buy! If a product claims it is natural, it simply means that it contains no artificial ingredients. But what about white flour, white sugar and high-fructose corn syrup which have derived from natural sources? Each of these ingredients are highly refined, have been stripped of their key nutrients and “fortified” or “enriched” to replace them.
The phrase “Mutli-grain” is used by advertisements and marketed as something good for our health. When in reality it is just another misleading buzzword. Sure the grains in some of these products started out as whole grains, but be careful and read the labels. Unless the ingredient list actually lists whole grains like brown rice, whole wheat, spelt flour, etc. they product may actually be made with “Fortified” or “Enriched” grains which these grains have been bleached and stripped of their natural vitamins and minerals. In other words, you are consuming white flour without actually realizing it.
The issue lies within our own perception, and generalizing thought that ALL organic food is healthy. But let’s be clear organic chips, ice-cream, and cookies are just “junk food” without all the preservatives and additives. So even if it IS an organic product, I recommend still reading the ingredient label and determining for yourself if this is truly a “healthy” food.
